about

King Size Bed is an epic etherial slow-jam from multi-disciplinary artist Kaitlin Huwe. This harrowing love song features sensuous beats, and sky dancing vocal melodies.

Producer and Multi-Instrumentalist Edan Frei (Geffen/Interscope) brought a fresh electronic pop production to Huwe’s unique modern-folk sound. This track is expansively cinematic and deeply intimate, at the same time.

Brace your heart, because Huwe’s words will cut you to the core. The lyrics are literally pulled from a personal letter she wrote to a childhood friend, about her breakdown that led to a breakthrough.

“I left my lover and my family for two weeks over Christmas, to go be alone and write songs. That’s how desperate I was.”
 says Kaitlin.

“I had been working five jobs trying to stay afloat in Los Angeles. I was in an ugly version of survival-mode. I felt there were so many things I wanted to say and write, but I couldn’t find the time, strength, or space to create. I was stressed, exhausted, depressed, and severely burnt-out.”

I broke down. I realized I needed space, and quiet, but I couldn’t do it alone. I asked my community for support. I played a fundraising concert at my parent’s house in my hometown. My friends and family gifted me with the resources to go on a two-week Artist’s Retreat.

“My friends and mentors, Lauri and Scott Ishihara, hosted me on their property in New Mexico. They facilitated my retreat at their Artist’s Hive. I gazed at December stars, soaked in salt water tubs, and slept every night in a King Size Bed, alone. That bed served as a cocoon of transformation. I let go of so much fear around creating and being my true self. Songs just started pouring out of me.”

"On the last day of my retreat, I was writing a letter to my friend, Emma, about the entire experience. I wrote about my breakdown, finding my voice, and missing my sweetheart all at the same time. Halfway through the letter, I realized I was writing a song. I grabbed my guitar, and the whole thing flowed through in about 20 minutes.”

lyrics

v1
You let me go away / you let me have some space /
you really showed your strength
I’ve been unraveling / the girl I used to be /
and the knots aren’t so nice
So I’ll build a fire

pre
I’m out here trying to make some peace
And find out what I really need
Is our love just a routine?
Or is it something deeper?
Or are you just a weakness?

chorus
Cus it hasn’t been easy
Trying to fall asleep in a
King sized bed
Without you beside me
Without you beside me
Without you beside me

v2
I shed a skin / this December /
in New Mexico But up until now /
I wasn’t ready to let it go / so I’ll throw it in
The fire

pre
I’m out here trying to make some peace
Cus this last year brought me down to my knees
And I’m here to find what makes my heart beat
And I need the distance
I need the quiet to listen

chorus
Cus it hasn’t been easy
Trying to fall asleep in a
King sized bed
Without you beside me
Without you beside me
Without you beside me

v3
I need to say I’m sorry if I ever told /
you to be my everything now I know
That you’re just one person /
we grow below the surface / everything is inside me
Baby our love is fire

pre
I’m out here trying to make some peace
And I feel you here with me in the trees
I’m so glad I am listening to the silence
The revealing quiet

chorus
Cus it hasn’t been easy
Trying to fall asleep in a
King sized bed
Without you beside me
Without you beside me
Without you beside me

tag
But now I’m starting to see how I can be fully myself
In a king sized bed
Yes I am starting to see how I can be fully myself
In a king sized bed
In a king sized bed
